Description of Service:
The Helen Berube Teen Parent Program is an alternative education site which services Pittsfield’s population of young mothers and their infants. Pregnant and parenting teens and young adults enroll in the program in an attempt to earn their high school diploma or obtain their General Equivalency Diploma (GED). The Helen Berube Teen Parent Program is a model program. There is no other program in Massachusetts that facilitates each participant with obtaining a high school diploma and addresses the social services needs of teen parents while offering an on-site, licensed daycare. Throughout the school day, students’ infants attend an on-site licensed and accredited nursery.  The nursery supervisor consistently provides a nurturing environment for infants, which enhances bonding opportunities and the caretaking abilities of our teen mothers. Subsequently, the infants serviced in our nursery are healthier and meet their developmental milestones faster than if they did not attend.
